{"id":474,"date":"2021-04-19T17:58:29","date_gmt":"2021-04-19T16:58:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staging.eo4sas.com\/?page_id=474"},"modified":"2021-05-26T17:42:26","modified_gmt":"2021-05-26T16:42:26","slug":"executing-discovery","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/eo4sas.com\/index.php\/executing-discovery\/","title":{"rendered":"Work During The Discovery Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Four main threads formed the programme of work for the Discovery Project:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>User Engagement<\/li>\n<li>Technical Development<\/li>\n<li>Monitoring &amp; Evaluation<\/li>\n<li>Sustainability.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>User Engagement<\/h2>\n<p>At the heart of our User Engagement was a User-Centred Design Approach (UCD) &#8211; an iterative process of gathering information, feedbacking our understanding and adjusting that understanding based on the user responses.\u00a0 Having identified stakeholders and potential users we worked with <span data-contrast=\"auto\">representatives from the five Kenyan counties.\u00a0 Through a series of interactive workshops and interviews, we formed a user-centric picture of their roles, tasks and workflows within the sand monitoring process.\u00a0 Subsequently, a set of low-fidelity mock-up screens featuring EO tools representing an implementation of a particular task or workflow was presented back to the users and through semi-structured interviews, the more useful screens and products were identified.\u00a0 Finally, this &#8220;short-list&#8221; of screens was re-implemented as hi-fidelity prototypes, displaying data from prototyped EO tools and re-presented to the users for their &#8220;sign-off&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Technical<\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">We focussed on testing how EO data could be used to support sand monito<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ring, both from free-to-access<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and commercial high-resolution<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0data<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0 The results of this testing, combined with the User Engagement work on beneficial satellite products <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">led to the creation of three interactive case studies for users to get involved with. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Follow this link &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/eo4sas.com\/index.php\/case-studies\/\">Case Studies<\/a> &#8211; to read about and experiment with the interactive case studies created during Discovery<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Monitoring &amp; Evaluation<\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This work set the background for the project helping to understand the current position of sand monitoring within Kenya &#8211; the landscape and context for a successful sand harvesting solution. Working in conjunction with User Engagement, a series of interviews and discussions were held to support the development of the Theory of Change and <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Logframe<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> to shape the engagement and the measurement of progress and success for the Operational Phase.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Sustainability<\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">We analysed the potential market for sand monitoring tools, both for any direct and indirect competitors and looked at potential customers for the solution.
