The project got started during this month – although our formal kick-off meeting was at the end of August.

We’ve done a lot of work at assessing our the different stakeholders that we need to talk to throughout the project, and agree an approach for the interviews and the questions we need to ask as this stage. Alongside this we sent off various letters of introduction to different Governmental Stakeholders to inform them about the project and ask for their involvement in the project. Finally, just at the end of the month we started the interviews, which was really exciting!

We’ve also started the work on the background analysis of the landscape of sand mining across Kenya and looking at the Earth Observation products that are currently available for sand mining, and to try and see what we can use and what we have design ourselves.

The project has contributed to an international consultation, attended a variety of webinars and meetings to support the development and progress of the project.

It’s been an exciting start and we’re looking forward to October!
